A songwriting residency nestled along the Minnesota North Shore of Lake Superior.
OVERVIEW
Big Water Songwriting Residency is committed to connecting songwriters with the creative possibilities of Lake Superior's North Shore landscape and its communities. Housed at North Country Cottages in Lutsen, MN, Big Water facilitates a space for songwriters to unplug from life on the road and in the studio and focus on experimentation, research, and creation within the refreshing solitude of woodlands and wide open water. Big Water also encourages artists to engage with the local arts community of the North Shore and explore its many opportunities for connection, collaboration, and inspiration.
ELIGIBILITY
Singer/songwriters at all career levels, of all genres, are welcome to apply.
Artists must commit to one full week at the cottage.
Artists must be able to provide their own transportation.
PROGRAM DETAILS
Residents are provided a private cottage that acts as both studio and lodging space – at no cost.
Big Water does not offer material, equipment, food, or transportation; stipends will be dispersed as available, but cannot be expected.
Big Water is process focused and encourages curiosity and experimentation. It is not required to complete a full project while at Big Water.
Residencies are 1 week in duration.

Big Water is currently accepting one resident per session.
Artist groups are eligible to apply, but number of participants allowed is determined on a case-by-case basis and amenities/lodging are likely to be shared.
Big Water will work with each individual artist to customize their residency, aligning resources and connections to make their time in Lutsen as fruitful as possible.
